A passenger’s snack choice of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos recently caused an extra layer of security screening at Los Angeles International Airport.
Emily Mei, 25, told USA TODAY that TSA officers at LAX pulled her aside Friday to search her carry-on bag which contained at least 12 bags of the Hot Cheetos.
“I thought they were going to reach their hand in and see that there was nothing suspicious,” she told USA Today.
But to her surprise, officers began inspecting each bag individually using test strips.
Mei, an Instagram influencer with more than 400,000 followers took to Twitter to show her followers what was going down.
“Will never forget the day TSA stopped me cuz they thought I was hiding (expletive) inside my bag cuz all I had was like 20 bags of Hot Cheetos,” she wrote.
If you’re wondering why she had so many bags of the spicy snack, Mei told said they were for her friends back in South Korea.
“Apparently it’s hard to get in Korea, so my friends always ask me to bring it for them LOL,” she revealed.
She told USA Today that she always makes space in her luggage for American foods and snacks, including cereal, candy, and clearly, Cheetos.
She stuffed the Hot Cheetos in her carry-on because she couldn’t fit them all in her suitcase.
TSA hasn’t responded to the incident but Frito-Lay, the brand behind the snacks applauded her for the effort of trying to get the cheese puffs in a different location.
“The thought that someone would take the time to bring bags of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos to a friend halfway around the world – and seeing the video of it in action – made us smile,” said Brandi Ray, senior director of marketing for Cheetos, in a statement.
