The Top Winter Adventure Destinations Around The World
By Leah Freeman-Haskin
It may be hard to admit, but the winter months are right around the corner. Now is the time to start planning those winter getaways that involve snow, down jackets, and outdoor adventure.
Escape The Hustle In Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Snowmobiling, snowshoeing, heli and cat skiing, sleigh rides, bike tours, and paragliding are just a few of the options while visiting Jackson Hole during the winter months. If winter adventure is what you are after, then this is your spot. Use this guide to plan your getaway for the trip of a lifetime.
Trek Through Patagonia
With many amenities closed during the summer months, November through April is a great time to visit Torres del Paine National Park in Chile’s Patagonia. Expect to see epic mountains and iconic bright, blue icebergs and glaciers that provide a dramatic backdrop.
Cruise To Antarctica
This frozen continent is home to albatrosses, prions, petrels, penguins, seals, whales, and dolphins and is becoming a tourist destination for its abundant wildlife and incomparable views. Some cruises even allow you to kayak through icebergs and get up close and personal with penguins.
Heli-Skiing in Iceland
Not for the faint of heart, heli-skiing is when you are dropped off on the top of a mountain via helicopter instead of a ski lift. Clearly, this is for serious skiers only who are looking for snowy, unspoiled runs. In the Fljót Valley in northern Iceland, the slopes are right on the coast offering a breathtaking expanse of blue as you ski down powdery, white mountains.
Basking In The Blue Lagoon
If heli-skiing isn’t quite your speed, consider soaking in the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa in southwestern Iceland. This retreat offers private access to the lagoon which can be a bit touristy, but certainly worth the crowds for the gorgeous views and once-in-a-lifetime experience.
