Did You Know There Are Wildfires Burning In Sub-Sahara Africa Too?

As the world slowly learns of the severity of the wildfires burning throughout the Amazon, reports are coming out that this isn’t the only place being affected.

It seems that there are currently more wildfires burning around the Sub-Sahara of Africa right now as there are in the Amazon.

However, scientists want to remind us that attempting to compare the effects of the two sets of fires is like comparing apples to oranges.

The fires that are spreading through Angola, Zambia and the Democratic Republic of the Congo are said to be more so controlled fires at the hands of local farmers.

These fires help farmers to clear out land to make way for new crops as well as enhance soil quality but, this does not come without consequence. As you would think, fires take a toll on the quality of air in the area as well.

As of now, it is being said that these fires are expected and its nothing to be alarmed about. But, the situation in the Amazon is something that we should all be concerned about.

As you may or may not know, the Amazon is home to 10% of the world’s plants and animals, and estimates show that nearly 20% of the oxygen produced by the Earth’s land comes from the region’s rain forests.

In other words, if the Amazon is destroyed it could severely affect climate change.
