Traveler Story: Exploring The Best Of Thailand

By Travel Noire

Traveler Desiree Thomas shares the highlights of her journey through Thailand.

Travel Noire: Why did you decide to go Thailand?

Desiree: Thailand has always been on my list of places to go and since I found a cheap flight to China, it was the best time to do two spots in one go.

Travel Noire: Did you go alone or with friends?

Desiree: It was myself and my girl and black travel blogger Elaisha Jade.

Travel Noire: How much was your plane ticket?

Desiree: My ticket to China came to $650 and I had $200 in travel points thanks to my credit card, so I used those which brought the ticket to $450. From China to Thailand it was about $100.

Travel Noire: What was the coolest thing you did?

Desiree: The Bangkok Day Tour. It was about 8 hours exploring and traveling like a tourist. We took everything from tuk-tuks to boats, buses and water taxies. It was exhausting but so worth it.

Travel Noire: What surprised you the most about this destination?

Desiree: How welcoming and friendly everybody was.

Travel Noire: How did you feel being a black person in this country?

Desiree: I felt included in Thailand. I didn’t feel any sense of racism. China, however, was a different story.

Travel Noire: Where did you stay?

Desiree: I stayed at three different locations in Thailand: Vibe 2 Hotel, Amari Watergate and Amari Phuket. All were absolutely amazing.

Travel Noire: Where were your favorite places to eat?

Desiree: The food everywhere was amazing but we went to one dessert spot called DOM cafe in Chiang Mai and they had a Mango Crumble Cheesecake that had to be one of the best desserts I’ve ever tasted. We also went to a local spot where we spent roughly $5 on a pad thai dinner. It was so good.

Travel Noire: What was the highlight of your trip?

Desiree: The entire trip was filled with highlights but my favorites were the Elephant Sanctuary, Wat Rong Khun, the tuk-tuk rides and the Thai massage.

Travel Noire: What would you do differently about your trip?

Desiree: I would have stayed longer in Phuket. Unfortunately, that trip was very rushed since we made a mistake with our tickets but it’s definitely somewhere I will return.
