Thirst Traps & Solo Travel Help Tracee Ellis Ross Recharge

Everyone’s favorite actress, Tracee Ellis Ross, stopped by A Little Late with Lilly Singh recently, where she discussed her love for solo travel.

“I talk a lot for my job and I’m out, with people, so I like having a moment to myself,” she tells Lilly. “I like to go, I like to read, watch everything I’ve downloaded from Netflix, I catch up on stuff. It’s fantastic.”

However, we all know, one of the downsides of solo travel is getting those awesome selfies off. I mean, what’s the point of traveling to exotic places if you can’t do it for the gram, right? And when it comes to doing it for the gram, Tracee does not disappoint. She never fails to serve up looks from her vacations. The Black-ish actress dished on her selfie-taking secrets.

“I am the queen of propping the phone up and using the timer, the 3-second or the 10-second,” she revealed. “The beauty of the 10-second is that it’ll take the series of pictures, and I’ll prop it and do it. And on solo vacations, you can full-on spend so much time looking at pictures of yourself and no one says anything.”

And the best part is, Tracee is just like the rest of us — she gets pure joy out of making her exes jealous when she posts a fire selfie on social media.

“My favorite is exes and stuff,” she tells Lilly. “I’ll get texts and they’ll be like, ‘Who are you on vacation with? I’m like, ‘Wouldn’t you like to know.'”

When it comes to solo travel, one key takeaway that Tracee has gotten from it is:

“It’s empowering and has afforded me the opportunity to connect with other human beings, to see how we are all so much alike, to learn about different cultures and traditions, and to really open up my understanding of what it is to be a human. It has given my life a richness that I really appreciate.”

This isn’t the first time Tracee has spoken about the joys of traveling solo as a woman. In fact, she’s a big advocate for doing so.

“I think that was a big growth opportunity for me as I was coming of age and learning how to be on my own,” Ross says. “I’m very comfortable traveling alone and being my own best friend.”

Last year, she offered a few tips for those who may be anxious about traveling alone. “I would experiment going to a restaurant at 8 pm on your own on a Saturday night to see how it feels,” she suggested. “You start to get a sense of what it is that you’re comfortable with.”

From there, you can get a sense of what you’re comfortable with and push yourself to a point of eventually traveling on your own.
