Shanghai is a very old city that maintains as one of the biggest, richest and most influential cities in the world to date. It is a thriving metropolis that can rival any on the planet at the moment. There is so much to do in this city you won’t really manage to do half of them if you stayed here for a year — some of the selected things you could do in Shanghai include:

Visit the Bund

The Bund is a promenade lined with heritage buildings and across the river a good view of the Pudong skyscrapers. This is a picturesque point very popular with tourists.

Visit the Pudong Skyscrapers

Just across the river to the east of the Bund is Shanghai’s skyscrapers – a lovely contrast. Here you could visit the 88th floor of the Jin Mao Tower that has the observation deck and has a panoramic view of the city. Better still, you could explore the Shanghai World Trade center that also houses the Park Hyatt Shanghai whose observation deck is at an impressive 474m above the ground.

Next to it is even the much taller Shanghai Tower that 632m high making it the second tallest building in the World after the Burji Khalifa in Dubai and has the world’s highest observation deck at 562m above the ground – a perfect spot to tour the City just with your eyes.

Tianzifang

This is an enclave in Shanghai that is the perfect spot for tourist artifacts. Be careful, the alleys of Tianzifang are a complete real-life maze, and you could find yourself getting lost in it.  Here you could shop at Beara beara, have coffee at Blacksheep espresso, eat at the Japanese Café Dan, buy souvenirs at Fancy Woo or cake at Old Shanghai Cake shop, buy perfumes at the Shanghai Woman or minimalist wear at Urban Tribe and many more.

Ride the Maglev

Who would through away an opportunity to ride the world’s fastest train? Be prepared to feel a little bit whiplashed; you’ll be riding a distance of 30 km within only 8 minutes hitting top speeds of 430km/h. You can get the tickets just at the station, so it isn’t a very frustrating thing.

Enjoy tea at the Huxinting Tea House

The quiet tea house sits in a pond within the Yu Garden and is the perfect spot to get away from the crowds and enjoy a quiet environment in a 24 million people city. Tea, of course, is quite expensing here considering you are paying for the tea and the location.

Visit Soong Qing-Ling’s Residence

Soong Qing-ling was the wife of nationalist leader and Republic of China founder Sun Yat-sen. Yat-sen was 27 years older than Soong Qing-Ling. Sun Yat-sen died just ten years later, and Soong Qing-Ling soon switched allegiances, from Nationalism to Communism. The residence was built in the 1920s by a German, and the bedroom was furnished by part of her dowry.

Visit the People’s Park

Adjacent to the people’s square is the People’s Park. It is a good spot to relax and enjoy fresh air after a walk along Nanjing Road.
