Siem Reap is probably best known as the gateway to the ancient temples of Angkor and it is certainly that, but this city offers visitors many great things to see and do. If you’re in the mood for backpacking or sampling some of the best wine and food in the world, you’ll find it in Siem Reap.

Travelers with an interest in culture will find a number of cultural experiences in Siem Reap but there are also luxurious spas and tours that can help you can get the most out of your vacation.

Angkor National Museum

While on your way to visit the temples of Angkor you will have the opportunity to stop at the Angkor National Museum. This is a state of the art museum that features exhibits themed by religion, royalty, and era. One of the most impressive exhibits in this museum is the Gallery of a Thousand Buddhas where you’ll find a fantastic collection of images.

Psar Chaa Market

Shopping in Siem Reap is an experience that you won’t want to miss. One of the best markets in the city is Psar Chaa. At this market, you’ll find just about any type of merchandise you can imagine from silverware to silk and stone carvings. You will also find more traditional souvenirs such as coins, Buddhas, and t-shirts. Like most markets, the more you haggle with the vendors, the better the deals.

Angkor Zipline

Ziplines are one of the funniest activities to do on vacation, even for novices. If you want a unique experience, the Angkor zipline will give you that and much more. Close to the Angkor temples, this zip line features 10 lines, 21 treetop platforms and four sky bridges. When you buy tickets for this experience, lunch is included in the price, making it’s a great deal. If you plan to visit the temples of Angkor, this little side trip might make the trip that much more exciting.

Siem Reap Food Tours

Don’t let your trip to Siem Reap end without a food tour. Operated by a Scottish chef and an American food writer, Siem Reap Food Tours offers morning tours that feature the naom banchok noodle stalls of Preah Dak along with a visit to the local markets. The evening tour takes you to local barbeque restaurants, as well as street food stalls so you can be sure to get a good taste of local foods.

Phare the Cambodian Circus

Phare the Cambodian Circus is not your everyday circus. This circus emphasizes the art of performance. Many of the circus performers come from families who have been circus performers for generations. If you want a fun night out for adults or even the entire family, this is a show that will be sure to entertain.

Visit the Floating Village and Tonle Sap Lake

One of the most unique things to do while visiting Siem Reap is the Floating Village Tour. Travel Tonle Sap Lake on a traditional Cambodian boat where you’ll see floating villages, crocodile farms and much more. Take in the stunning views while enjoying great food.
