When it comes to food, it is only appropriate that you eat what the locals eat. Not only will it save you from spoiling the whole fun, but you will also be exploring new tastes. In Koh Rong, you are most likely to find famous Colombian dishes, some dating to hundreds of years. Remember that one of the most important things to tourists is being adventurous when trying new cuisines and having to tell people about it.

While in your search for the local delicacies, there are some typical foods here that you are most likely to come across in restaurant menus are like the ones below.

Beef lok lak

This is a delicious meal that is made by chopping beef into thin slices. The slices are then fried with onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Usually, this dish is served with fried eggs, and it is quite a heavy meal. According to history, this has initially been Vietnamese cuisine. Today, beef lok lak is one of the most loved dishes, and you will always find it in most restaurants. However, you might want to look for a restaurant that is known to make the best beef lok lak.

Bugs

Well, this is not for the faint hearted at all.  Cambodians have been getting healthy nutrition from bugs ever since they existed. This traditional meal is still active in the modern world making it one of the world’s most exciting cuisines. You should know that bugs are rich in protein, but you should only eat if prepared by an expert. Bugs are customarily served with fruits and other spices like onions and garlic. The kind of bugs can be of variety but most commonly ants, tarantula, and scorpion.

Khmer curry

Don’t be surprised when you realize that your Khmer curry tastes different in another restaurant. That is because the recipe for preparing this meal differs. It’s generally mild and mellow and has a sweet taste to the mouth. Typical ingredients include shallots, broth, turmeric, ginger, sweet potatoes, herbs, coconut milk, and fish.

Pork and rice

Pork and rice is the traditional Cambodian breakfast. This dish is only available in the morning even in restaurants. The pork is sliced into thin pieces then marinated using oil and garlic. It’s barbecued on a warmly heated grill until it is cooked. Generally served with sliced cucumber and vegetables, eating pork and meat in Koh Rong will be a story worth telling all the time.

Lorta cha

These look like noodles only shorter and fatter. They are cooked by frying them with broccoli, herbs, beef, beansprout plus fish and soy sauce. The top is finished with fried eggs to complete the eye-catching and mouth-watering meal. Feel free to add on some chili sauce if you prefer.

Nothing is more interesting than eating a new kind of food for the first time. While in Koh Rong, you should know that the typical traditional food is the same shared by thousands of people living in Cambodia. You should however not forget that the traditional Cambodian cuisine is an endless list of food.
