Study Shows One-Third Of Americans Haven’t Vacationed In Two Years

Americans are struggling to find the time and the money to get away.
According to Allianz Global Assistance 11th annual Vacation Confidence Index, more than one-third of Americans said they have not taken a vacation in more than two years.
Even more shocking, more than half of those surveyed said they hadn’t taken a vacation in more than one year.
The index defines vacation as a leisure trip that lasts one week to a destination at least 100 miles away from home.
When those surveyed were asked if they would take a vacation this year, 42 percent answered yes.
Reports have attributed the lack of vacation to work, but the Vacation Confidence Index found that 44 percent do not travel because they do not have the money, as reported in Travel Pulse.
14 percent said they are not confident about summer vacation plans for not having enough time off, and 12 percent said they are not confident that they will not take the time off from work because they don’t want to.
Other factors keeping Americans home, include being uninterested in taking the time away and the fact that planning a vacation is too stressful and time-consuming.
This year marked the first time that Allianz Global Assistance group included the relationship between a boss and employee into the survey.
Analysts found that more than 50 percent of Americans say they take about the same proportion of vacation time as their bosses. Employees reported that their bosses take about 50 percent of their entitled vacation and time, which suggests that employees are mimicking that vacation behavior. This means that ultimately, a lot of vacation days are going unused.
“Americans are still consistently underutilizing their paid time off, with the average working American taking few than half their vacation days and a third of Americans reporting that they haven’t vacationed in more than two years,” Daniel Durazo, director of marketing and communications at Allianz Global Assistance USA told Travel Pulse.
The best thing to do, according to Durazo, is to take a micro-cation, to reap positive health benefits that come from vacation.
