Max Sylvester is a student pilot in Australia whose lesson took a wild turn on Saturday evening. Sylvester’s instructor blacked out, leaving him in charge of the small aircraft.

According to 9 News, it was his first lesson in that kind of plane. He made an emergency call to air traffic controllers after not being able to revive the pilot and with their assistance, he successfully landed the plane in front of a crowd of onlookers.

In an audio recording, the operator is heard asking: “Do you know how to operate the airplane?”

Sylvester then replies: “This is my first lesson.”

The air traffic controllers enquired about the pilot instructor but were told by Sylvester that he was not responding.

“Just keep an eye on your speed that you’re not going into the red too much and keeping those wings level and keeping your nose nice and level on the horizon”, said the controller to Sylvester.

The incident occurred Saturday evening at Jandakot Airport in Perth, Australia.

The pilot instructor was immediately taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital after landing.

He is believed to have suffered a seizure and is in serious but stable condition.
