We scoured the internet for black-owned businesses in Maine. Although there isn’t a huge selection of options to choose from, there are certainly enough to spend an entire day supporting the community.

From Portland to Searsport, African-cuisine seems to rule supreme when it comes to black-owned restaurants. Spend some time getting to know the locals and owners of these top-rated dining spots and one beauty supply store across the state.

Start The Day With Brunch

Head to the Red Sea for brunch with a taste of East Africa. The Eritrean and Ethiopian food they serve is said to be delicious and affordable, with reviews saying the space in like an old-school café with amazing food and staff that feels like family.

Head to Asmara, an Eritrean restaurant, where their dishes are served communal style on a large piece of flat bread called injera. Their large menu includes fiery chicken stew, beef with okra, shiro, and so much more.
