Not too long ago, Bermuda tourism officials announced an ambitious goal of doubling the number of black travelers to the island by 2025.

The announcement by tourism officials was publicized after a report revealed that African-American spent nearly $63 billion on tourism in 2018.

As Bermuda’s tourism agency works to attract more black visitors, here’s how to support black-owned businesses during your visit.

Breakfast At De Island Shack

Husband and Wife team O’neil and Carmen Tucker created De Island Shack from their passion for art and food. Inside their café, you will find local arts and crafts and a variety of yummy pastries, coffee, and smoothies on the menu.

Enjoy Fine Art At Branco Gallery

April Dawn is a contemporary realist pastel painter and the founder of April Branco Gallery.  Inside the art gallery, located on the lower level of the Washington Mall, you will find a dozen paintings, photos, and sculptures by local artists.

Need Sneakers?  Shop At Bermuda’s Black-Owned Consignment Shop Laced BDA

Located at 69 Front Street,  shop at Laced BDA to find sneakers or wardrobe releases from your favorite designers that you may have missed.

Lunch At Mr. Chicken

With four locations across Bermuda, Mr. Chicken is best known for its fish sandwiches, shrimp, and swiss and mushroom homemade burgers.

On Sundays from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the restaurant serves a traditional codfish breakfast with Johnny bread, eggs, avocado, banana and choice of sauce.
