We are currently living in the digital age where our phones are practically glued to our hands and our eyes are often focused on our laptops. It is essential to take some time out ever so often to detach from the unnecessary noise.

Traveling to secluded places can be a great way to reboot and just be with your own thoughts.

If you’re looking for destinations for a media detox; South Africa has the perfect spots!

Whether you enjoy great food, relaxing spas, spectacular view — or, all of the above — this private lodge will be sure to make you put down your phone.

You can lounge in the Tree House which is set on a waterhole and listen to the soothing sounds of nature while falling asleep.

Bushwa Game Lodge is about a 5-hour drive from Johannesburg.

De Hoop Nature Reserve

Located on the coast with a protected reserve along 43 miles of untouched coastline is De Hoop Nature Reserve.

You can choose to reboot in a self-catering cottage or a luxury suite — either way, you will be able to disconnect from the outside world here.

Days here can be spent walking, biking, relaxing at the beach or pool and even going on a scenic game drive. If you’re an animal lover, you can spot Southern Right whales, ostrich, Cape Mountain zebra and a variety of bird species.

This four-day hiking trail is in the Overberg region of the Western Cape.

Accommodations will be in a four-star country guesthouse and be served fine foods and comfort during your stay.

Activities like swimming in rock pools and dams, walking the trail or hiking will keep your mind off of technology.

This is a privately-owned property and their guests are encouraged to live life at their own pace.

Built in 1912, Langrung Lodge is a secluded cottage. It can sleep up to six people, so there is plenty of room to unwind and unplug.

The white beaches at Struisbaai are only about 6 miles away — so you can spend time with both nature and the calming sounds of the waves hitting the shore.

Cambalala Guest House – Kruger Park

This guesthouse is located in a serene part of the Kruger Park resort. Staying here will grant you access to a tennis court and outdoor swimming pool.

You will be surrounded by a garden and can spend time going on a nature walk and bird watching.

Best of all, you can visit God’s Window — named because of the amount of natural beauty captured in one view.

Take a minute to wind down, unplug and disconnect in one of these secluded South African destinations.
