It’s been eight months since Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, leaving a large portion of the population without power and water for months, but as the island continues to rebuild, a new hotel hopes to attract travelers that are still uncertain about visiting the U.S. territory.

Located in San Juan’s Condado district, Serafina Beach Hotel opened in March and is the first new hotel to open its doors since Hurricane Maria. Drenched in white, aqua and teal, the hotel is a Mid-Century Modern dream inspired by the island’s coast and the waters of the Atlantic. “The hotel was designed to be like an edgy and intimate beach house that makes you feel like you are escaping with family and friends,” Betsy Mujica, director of sales at Serafina Beach Hotel, told Interior and Sources.

Owned by New York-based Serafina Restaurant Group, the hotel boasts retro-inspired décor, an infinity pool and 96 rooms with views of the ocean or the lagoon. The hotel also has a restaurant called aMare, which features Latin and Italian fusion cuisine.

It will take time before Puerto Rico is fully back on its feet (95% of power has been restored), but the opening of a new luxury hotel is a sign that the island is making progress in its recovery. Learn more about Serafina Beach Hotel here.
