Summer 2020 may seem like a distant dream as we turn the corner to fall and winter. However, now is a great time to start saving and even planning for that summer getaway. 2020 will be here before you know it, so let’s make sure you have the funds to book those early bird flights.

Create A Budget

This is a great place to start. Sit down and create a monthly budget that will get you to your 2020 travel goals. Determine where you want to go and start researching flights, hotels, and daily spending so you know exactly how much you need to save.  If you break that cost down monthly or weekly, you can work those savings into your budget and ensure that you stay on track.

Buy In Bulk

It’s not always cost-effective to buy in bulk, but for items that you use daily around the house, you can save a bunch when you stock up. Daily things like butter, toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, and soap are best bought in large quantities.

Go The Extra Mile

Prepare your meals instead of eating out at lunch every day. Pack snacks instead of rushing to the convenient store for an afternoon pick-me-up. Buy a reusable coffee cup and fill it up yourself in the mornings instead of going to Starbucks. Go the extra mile and watch how these little savings can add up quickly.

Nix The Little Things

That $9/month Netflix subscription may seem insignificant, but these small monthly purchases add up quickly. Take a quick look at your subscription services and cut back on at least half, if not all, of them. Just $20/month in savings is enough for a domestic roundtrip ticket in a year. It will be an easy task if your travel priorities are high.

Travel Fund

Open a travel savings account and commit to putting a reasonable percentage of your monthly income towards it. Another good option is to create an old-school money jar, label it “travel”, and at the end of every day, deposit whatever change you have.  Small steps can add up quickly.

Stick With It

Stay motivated to save. Create a vision board, upload a picture of your dream getaway to your desktop, whatever it takes to keep the goal in mind. The persistence and sacrificing won’t seem like much when you are basking in the sun on your dream, Mediterranean getaway.
