Ryanair Facing Backlash After Flight Attendant Forced Mom To Stop Breastfeeding

If you are a mother of an infant, you have probably heard the tip that feeding your little one during landing and takeoff can help a lot. It is said that nursing as your flight is taking off and landing, can help with a child’s popping ears.

More and more airports and airlines are understanding the importance of providing a safe and comfortable environment for all passengers. This includes nursing mothers.

However, this wasn’t the case earlier this month on a Ryanair flight from Portugal to the United Kingdom.

Rachel Duffy was traveling with her 7-month old son when she decided to nurse him during takeoff. Just 10-days prior to this trip, she had done the same thing going from the UK to Portugal. No one seemed to have an issue with it then.

Because of this, Rachel didn’t think there would be an issue doing the same thing on this particular flight. She was wrong.

Shortly after taking her seat and getting her son to calm down by nursing, a flight attendant came to her seat and commanded her to stop feeding. The flight attendant stood at the mother’s seat until she unlatched her son and redressed herself. It was an embarrassing moment that the mother will not forget.

“I was really shocked, angry and embarrassed by the situation,” Duffy said. “I continued to breastfeed during the rest of the flight, but I was told to stop again before landing.

“It’s left me incredibly anxious and nervous to fly again, and I won’t be doing so with Ryanair.”

The mother was able to resume nursing once in the air. However, the flight attendant came back again when it was time to land.

“Luckily, for the rest of the flight from Portugal to Manchester, I was not told to stop breastfeeding, but I was told off again when the plane began to land. It’s made me very angry and others that I have spoken to are disgusted with Ryanair. It made our flight very difficult and uncomfortable.”
