By DeAnna Taylor
Major airlines are currently running a fare sales from various cities across the states to beautiful San Juan Puerto Rico. The lowest fares can be found leaving from Miami at a price of $158 round-trip with travel dates running from September and October.
Fares for less $300 can also be found out of Raleigh-Durham (RDU), New York (JFK), and Dallas (DFW) on airlines like Delta, and you can find fares for less than $400 from Charlotte (CLT), Atlanta (ATL), Los Angeles (LAX), Chicago (ORD), and even Houston (IAH). Use Google Flights to find exact fares and dates for your departure city.
After being hit hard by Hurricane Maria in 2017, many travelers have been worried about visiting the U.S. territory. According to the Islandsofpuertorico.com, tourism which is crucial to the economy of Puerto Rico, is up and running just fine. You will have no issue finding hotels as the majority of them are back in business, though a few of the more popular resorts are still undergoing renovations with plans to open by the end of this year. Furthermore, the beaches are safe for swimming and have been for some time now.
San Juan offers something for everyone. Start by walking the cobblestone roads filled with colorful colonial homes in Old San Juan. Relax at one of the many beautiful beaches and try some watersports. If you are into nature, check out El Yunque rainforest for a hike and awesome waterfalls. (Prior to booking any tours for this ask about what areas are still closed due to hurricane recovery to determine if it is worth the money. You could also do a self-guided tour.) Lastly, be sure to indulge in authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. A must-try dish is Mofongo which is a mound of plantains into which seafood, meats, and vegetables are added.
If you are looking for a quick escape, this is the deal for you. Remember that passports are not required for U.S. citizens to travel to Puerto Rico, but review our checklist here about traveling during hurricane season.
