A commercial pilot has been charged with nine counts of criminal mischief for allegedly writing racist graffiti on the inside of a bathroom wall at the Tallahassee International Airport in Florida.
According to court documents, police charged former Endeavor Air employee, James Ellis Dees, after he admitted to writing “#MAGA = NO N**S = NO SP**S” anti-Black and anti-Hispanic slurs in both the bathrooms and elevators at the airport.
Dees was questioned by Airport police and asked about the graffiti after security footage from the elevator showed him writing on the wall.
He told the officers during the time of questioning that he had “been going through a ‘really tough time,’ and has anger issues,” as reported by CNN.
Police released Dees after questioning him but as he was about to begin his flight, the police then decided that he was not in the ‘right state of mind’ to fly a plane,” according to court documents.
Dees no longer works for Endeavor, a subsidiary of Delta Airlines.
“These actions in no way reflect the values of Endeavor Air, and this individual is no longer employed by the airline,” a spokesperson told CNN.
Tallahassee Police said 20 incidents of graffiti were reported to its airport unit from December 2018 to December 2019. The majority were racist, and others were in support of impeachment or against the President, and one was undefined.
Dees admitted to all but one of the racist graffiti incidents, but to none of the other graffiti.
