As much as traveling the world can be a great experience and opportunity to expand our minds, it can also be quite dangerous — especially for Americans.

The U.S. Department of State has issued travel advisories to many countries. These advisories were set in place in certain countries because of rampant crime, government corruption, environmental pollution, and civil unrest.

Nevertheless, it is important to stay as safe as possible when traveling abroad.

This is why Stacker examined the U.S. State Department’s travel advisories and made a list of the most dangerous countries for Americans to travel to.

Check out the current list of travel advisories.
