Travel Like A Princess: Here Are Meghan Markle’s Travel Secrets

By Leah Freeman-Haskin

Megan Markle has been a traveler for most of her life. “My mom was a travel agent, so off-the-beaten-path travel has always been a big part of my life,” she said in a 2017 interview with Allure. And even princesses feel the wear and tear that continuous travel can have on your body. “It’s easy to run yourself ragged,” Markle told Tig readers in a 2016 post. “Hopping from one locale to another, sometimes feeling homesick, and other times just feeling plain-old sick.”

Here are her top travel secrets to prevent illness and burnout while on the move.

Disinfect

Airports and planes are breeding grounds for germs and airborne illnesses. “I’m no germophobe,” Markle confessed on The Tig. “But when I get on a plane I always use some quick hand wipes or a travel sanitizer spray to wipe it all down: that includes the little TV, the service tray, and all the buttons around your seat.” Take a note from Markle and be proactive in keeping sicknesses at bay by wiping down your airplane seats and table with disinfectant wipes.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is the one thing that Markle never travels without. “It’s not the most glamorous thing, but if you get a cut, a mosquito bite, a small breakout, no matter what it is, it’s my little cure-all,” she told Allure. “It’s inexpensive, it’s small enough to carry on, and I bring it with me all the time.” For just $9.95, you can grab a small bottle on amazon for yourself.

Hydrate

Water, water, water. It is essential to staying healthy and feeling your best while traveling. Due to the reduced humidity in the air, flying can be incredibly dehydrating. Markle recommends that you “hydrate like you’re dying of thirst”.

Pack Probiotics

Traveling to a new place can often mean trying new foods. Markle always suggests traveling with a high strain probiotic to keep your stomach healthy and to help with any discomfort. Disrupted and low-quality sleep that comes with traveling can also lead to constipation, and probiotics can help get things moving.

Eat When the Locals Eat

Here’s an interesting tip to beat jet lag. Markle suggests eating on the schedule of your destination. “By simply eating a meal at the time the locals are when you land, you trick your brain a bit and stay much more on track, and much less cranky,” she told the Tig. Great advice for those long-haul trips.
