Bat Catches A Free Spirit Airlines Flight To New Jersey And Causes Chaos
By Parker Diakite
When it comes to Spirit Airlines, there are few jokes about why its fares are so cheap, including the one about purchasing a cheap ticket means passengers will have to fly the plane.
Flying the plane is clearly a stretch. But catching a bat? You should probably learn how to do that.
Passengers aboard the budget airline’s flight from North Carolina to New Jersey got quite the scare when a random bat began flying around the cabin mid-flight.
Twitter user Peter Scattini posted a terrifying video of the bat flying down the aisle on the social media platform with the caption:
“Me, twice a year: I’ll never fly Spirit again.
Me, this morning, after deciding I’d rather save 12 dollars:”
He told the Huffington Post that despite his doubt of Spirit Airlines, he decided to take a gamble with the company because he had to book a last-minute flight to New York.
“I’ve had multiple poor experiences on Spirit but their fares are consistently the cheapest,” he stated.
Scattini added that “passengers started screaming and yelling, and very quickly thinks devolved into chaos. Where it came from? No idea. Eventually, someone trapped it between a book & a cup and then locked it in one of the restrooms for the remainder of the trip.”
Officials from Spirit Airlines confirmed with the Huffington Post that a “stowaway bat” was present on the flight from Charlotte to Newark and that that it was “removed once on the ground by animal control officers.”
In terms of compensation, Spirt offered Scattini a $50 voucher for his experience.
Not long after the incident, Twitter users responded:
“I wonder how much Spirit charged the passengers for the bat upgrade, and if it was cheaper for their $9 Fare Club members,” one user stated.
“Imagine being a bat just trying to save some money on a flight and then everybody yelling at you. Smh,” another user said.
