London’s Best Markets

By Travel Noire

London is an incredible city and certainly tops my list (so far) of the best places to visit. Most of my weekends in London are spent dancing in quirky clubs, walking through the beautiful Hyde Park on a rare sunny day and shopping in the hosts of open air markets. The latter however, was by far one of my favorite activities and every Saturday my friend and I would visit a different market, only to find ourselves falling more in love with this amazing city. If you have the chance to spend a day or two in London, the open markets are certainly a must-see and most are easily accessible by the tube and a short walk.

EAT: BOROUGH MARKET

London’s famous Borough Market can only be accurately described as a food lover’s paradise. It is space where the scent of fresh artisan bread, an array of fried delicacies and massive chocolate bars make it nearly impossible for anyone to resist. Boasting food from all over the world, this market truly reflects London’s cultural and ethnic diversity.

SHOP: PORTOBELLO MARKET

Portobello Market, nestled in west London, is a place where locals and tourists collide. The market, located in the trendy Notting Hill neighborhood, stretches for miles down Portobello Road. Every Saturday, the market is filled with independent merchants selling artwork, vintage clothing and various antiques. If you get the chance to go, don’t forget to stop at Humming Bird Bakery for one of their delicious red velvet cupcakes.

SEE: COLUMBIA FLOWER MARKET

On a Sunday afternoon, head over to Columbia’s Flower Market, home to over 50 colorful and sweet-smelling flower stalls. While you’re there, don’t forget to check out the small art galleries, pubs and vintage shops that have  become apart of this beautiful outdoor market. Tip: Bring your walking shoes and come early to beat the crowds!

London’s Gatwick Airport Is Testing A Faster Way To Board

Getting on a plane is slower and more complicated than ever. From the long wait times at security checkpoints, then [typically] gunning it across the other side of the airport to your gate, to the next line of actually boarding your flight, the process of making it to your seat is at least a 1.5-hour […]
