By DeAnna Taylor
Colombia is quickly becoming the hottest South American country for tourists these days. With multiple cities having different vibes, visiting Colombia is a must do.
If you are in or around San Diego, you can fly to Bogota, Colombia for as low as $380 roundtrip. American Airlines has reduced prices on its routes to the Colombian city.
The low-priced routes are valid for travel from May through September. It is best to use a search engine like Google Flights first to find specific date ranges. Then use Priceline to get the lowest price for purchase.
Bogota is the capital and largest city of Colombia. It is known for its cultural epicenter, La Candelaria. The cobblestone, historic downtown is where most travelers flock. Here you will find lots of colonial-style buildings that have been carefully preserved. It is also home to museums, restaurants, hotels and bars, mixed amid 300-year-old houses, churches and convents.
If you have the time, you can make this a multiple destination trip. You can find short flights to Cartagena for as low as $60 on many local airlines.
Cartagena sits on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Cartagena’s Old Town is a Unesco World Heritage Site. It is a maze of cobbled alleys, balconies covered in bougainvillea, and large churches. Many people still associate the area with drugs and crime, but that is changing.
The city presents the perfect blend of old and new. You can catch the sunset with a cocktail and lounge music at Café del Mar, an extremely popular open-air bar that looks out on the sea, the traffic on Avenida Santander and the modern skyline of Bocagrande.
The Bocagrande area is filled with high-rises, local beach cafes, and plenty of shopping.
This is a great deal for those on the West Coast. Grab your seat fast.
