Flight Deal: Head To Porto, Portugal For $244 Round-Trip
By Parker Diakite
Move over Lisbon, Portugal’s second largest city has been making quite the buzz this past year.
Located on the Douro River, Porto is becoming known for more than its famed Port Wine.
One reason for its growing popularity is the city’s prices. Portugal tends to be a cheaper destination for those looking for a budget-friendly vacation in Europe and Porto is one of the cheapest cities in Portugal.
Even with the increase in tourism, hotels, bed and breakfast accommodations, and hostels can be found for a decent price.
Of course, you can’t visit Portugal without tasting the country’s wine, which is popular due to its unique soil, but don’t forget to indulge in Porto’s food scene.
The Francesinha is one of the most popular food items to try in Porto. The sandwich is made with bread, ham, sausages, steak and typically covered with melted cheese and an egg on top.
What makes it truly unique is the secret sauce, which is comprised of a hot thick tomato and beer sauce to dip your sandwich in.
Aside from food and wine, Porto is a beautiful city with a great deal of charm. One of the best things to do is to sit along Porto’s beaches and watch the sunset. The best part is that it’s free.
