By DeAnna Taylor
San Juan, Puerto Rico is a great way to escape to a new place if you haven’t gotten a passport. As a U.S. territory, Americans can travel freely to the Caribbean country with no issue.
Delta airlines is currently offering a deal on its nonstop routes from New York’s JFK airport to San Juan. The lowest price found is only $250 for a roundtrip flight.
This particular deal is valid for travel throughout the month of October. You can simply head to Google Flights to find the dates that work best for you.
Keep in mind that this deal is part of Delta’s basic economy fare. There are some restrictions, so you should check the website for details.
San Juan is still on the road to recovery, but it is definitely open for tourism. The island was hit hard by Hurricane Maria in 2017 but things are looking up again for the country.
San Juan offers something for everyone. Start by walking the cobblestone roads filled with colorful colonial homes in Old San Juan. Snap a picture in front of the mural of the nation’s flag.
Relax at one of the many beautiful beaches and try some watersports. If you are into nature, check out El Yunque rainforest for a hike and impressive waterfalls. Before booking any tours, ask what areas are still closed due to hurricane recovery to determine if it is worth the money. You could also do a self-guided tour.
Lastly, be sure to indulge yourself on authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. A must-try dish is Mofongo, a mound of plantains into which seafood, meats, and vegetables are added.
If you are looking for a quick fall escape, this is the deal for you. Remember that passports are not required for U.S. citizens to travel to Puerto Rico. Hurry and grab your fight before prices rise again.
