Passenger Says Delta Airlines Pilot Used Dating App To Message Him Mid-Flight

Love was in the air, literally, for a passenger who claims a Delta Airlines pilot sent him a message on a dating app during their flight.

JP Thorn says he received a message on Grindr, a gay dating app, as soon as he took his phone off airplane mode and landed in Chicago. “I see you’re on my flight,” the message said. “Enjoy the ride to Chicago.” Thorn was a little taken back by the message. “My reaction was I knew I needed to get off this plane as fast as I can,” Thorn said. “I’ve had some weird experiences with proximity stuff on Grindr.”

The Hamline University student said the message was sent on the Delta Airlines flight about 30 minutes before landing. The man’s profile picture had a sky view picture from the cockpit.  Although he was hesitant at first, Thorn said they continued to talk and the pilot ended up being a decent guy. “He asked me about our flight, how it was on the way, and the conversation was really standard,” he said. “I said there was no turbulence, then he made a joke about turbulence.” Typical flirting.

The 27-year old has deleted the app since the awkward notification but says he wouldn’t have been opposed to giving things a try. “I meet up with people all the time from Grindr. I think I totally would have met him for coffee.” Since posting the screenshot, it made its rounds, getting over 200,000 likes. Many followers were shocked that he didn’t take advantage of the pilot’s advances since pilots aren’t hard up on cash. “I got a lot of people saying I should’ve met up with pilots because they make a lot of money,” Thorn said. “That was pretty funny.”

Since pilots and crew members are in the air most of the time, they need romance too. There are apps out there made exclusively for those with specific turnons. A Tinder-like app called CrewMe allows pilots, flight attendants, and other crew members to swipe left or right based on who they see around them. The only difference is instead of random strangers, they meet random airline employees who are in the same city. If pilots turn you on, join Elite Singles or if you like pilots and flight attendants, Crew Dating may be more you’re speed.
