Finally, travelers can fly directly from New York to Guyana with American Airlines’ latest launch.
American Airlines made this new route after the Guyana Tourism Authority released data stating that arrivals from the U.S. increased by 13.43% in the past year.
“We were lucky they started daily flights from Miami and now from JFK. This is so good for tourism,” says Jay Behrend, a representative from the Guyana Tourism Authority to News Room Guyana.
There was an official ceremony at JFK airport on Wednesday night featuring Guyanese snacks and culture.
American Airlines started service from Guyana to Miami a little over a year ago and initially started with flights four times a week but transitioned into daily flight service.
In April, American Airlines announced there would be daily direct flights from JFK to Guyana in December.
“This route will be an important addition for our customers with cultural, business, or economic ties between Guyana and New York, and we look forward to offering Guyanese visitors air service to the Big Apple,” says Vasu Raja, Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning for American Airlines.
The daily flights will leave JFK at 6 p.m. and arrive at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (GEO) at 12:40 a.m. the next day. Return flights will leave from GEO at 1:35 a.m. and arrive at JFK at 6:29 a.m.
All American Airlines flights from NYC to Guyana will be operated on a Boeing 737-800 with 160 seats, 16 of them being in First Class. According to a statement from the airline, the aircraft will have free live TV, access to power at every seat and more entertainment options.
