How To Cure Your Wanderlust When You Can’t Afford To Travel
By Leah Freeman-Haskin
Wanderlust is defined as a strong desire to travel. Sometimes, when wanderlust hits, you may not have the funds to book the trip of your daydreams. Here are a few ways to satisfy that nagging need for adventure and exploration without spending a fortune.
Get Lost In Your Own Backyard
Chances are, there is much more to be explored in your own backyard than you imagine. We often take for granted the access we have to local sights and adventures. Turn off the GPS and drive down a new road. Get lost and remain open to what you might discover. A scenic drive could lead to a new park or charming neighborhood that you never knew was right in your backyard.
Try A New Restaurant
Without breaking the bank, enjoy a lunch or dinner at a new restaurant. Clear your schedule and take some time to indulge in the menu and ambiance. Share the experience with someone you love or go at it solo, just remember to put your worries away for a few hours and fall in love with the newness of the space.
Watch The Sunset
Take a moment to find the best place to watch the sunset in your area. Spend an hour sitting outside and watch the day come to a dramatic end. No matter where you are in the world, a sunset is a magical experience and a great way to spend an evening.
Become A Tourist
When’s the last time you took an architectural tour in your city, or rode that double-decker tour bus through town? What many people love most about traveling to new places is getting the chance to learn new things. That desire isn’t limited to trips abroad or expensive vacations. Learning about your city and being a part of the energy created by tourists will make you forget that your home is just down the street.
Book A Staycation
If you can afford it, a staycation is a great way to satisfy your wanderlust. Book a day at a nearby spa or one night at a local hotel where you can sit by the pool and order room service to your heart’s content. It will feel like a vacation without the huge price tag.
