21 Chicago Girls Will Travel To London Thanks To This Mentoring Program

Seeing the world is one of the best forms of education that any child can have. It opens their minds and allows them to see things they may not otherwise be exposed to at home.
Unfortunately, not every parent can afford to give their children this type of experience, but thanks to leaders like Delores Tomorrow in Chicago, it’s becoming a reality.
Delores is the founder of the organization iGlow Mentoring. She aims to show young Black girls from around the area that they are worthy of anything they dream of.
On December 28, Delores and her team will take 21 young women to London for the experience of a lifetime. The group will spend about 5 days touring Black-owned businesses, visiting universities, and networking with professionals of color.
“It’s really cool to now be able to create new friendships, especially with girls of color in another country,” Delores said.
The girls attending the trip were chosen out of more than 2,000 applications initially submitted. They had to submit personal statements, letters of recommendation and video blogs indicating how they would pay their international experience forward.
Out of the 21 set to travel, only one has been out of the country and 15 of them have never even left the city of Chicago.
“There is so much excitement around the trip, but the underlying heart of it is giving girls exposure and access to resources.”
