As you finalize your holiday travel plans, including what to pack in your luggage, Alaska Airlines is reminding customers not to forget the wine.

The company is allowing passengers to fly a case of wine with no baggage fee, but there is a catch: you must be an Alaskan Mileage Plan Member.

Flying 12 bottles for free works when passengers add their mileage plan number to their reservation. Customers will receive a $25 fee waiver to check a case of wine on flights departing from one of the 29 participating cities in the West Coast, according to Alaska Airlines officials.

The wine must be packed and sealed for transport in a protective shipping container.   Upon check-in, travelers should alert the Alaska Airlines customer service agent about the wine so staff can label your box as fragile.

Items packaged in a cardboard box are covered in case of loss, but are check at the passenger’s own risk for damage, a statement on the airlines’ website reads.

  • The Wine Flies Free program applies only on flights within the US, operated by Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air, and SkyWest from the airports below.
