The extensive history and culture of Lima provide a wealth of attractions for visitors. Lima is full of squares like the Plaza de Armas and its colonial architecture. There are also walking destination such as Malecón de Miraflores. If you are a history lover, you can see attractions like the Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco and many more. Lima’s food scene is also worth checking out, so you’ll want to be sure to also check out the great places to eat in Lima.

Plaza de Armas

The Plaza de Armas is where the city of Lima began and was the center of the Spanish colony. Dating back to 1535, this is one of the oldest sites in Peru. Travelers say it’s a must-see for every visitor to Lima including the Municipal Palace, as well as the bronze fountain that dates back to the 1650s. You can also see the Archbishop’s Palace. This beautiful structure is adorned with balconies. Group tours are available.

While visiting the Plaza you’ll want to stroll down Jirón de la Unión. This street is lined with shops and restaurants that leads to the Parque Juana Alarco de Dammert.

Coastal Paragliding

The coast of Miraflores, Barranco, and San Isidro are even more beautiful when you have a bird’s eye view. If you are looking for a day excursion in Lima, Peru then paragliding by the coast is perfect. Get a great view of the coastal area while having fun.

Barranco Bike Tour

The perfect way to see the best places in Barranco is by bike tour. One advantage of the bike tours is that you’ll have a chance to see one of the most fascinated places in Lima, up close and personal.

When visiting this historic district you’ll see some breathtaking architecture, as well as a booming art scene. If you visit at night, Barranco becomes a party district where you’ll find great restaurants and bars.

Visit the Church of San Francisco

This Colonial-era church is located in the downtown area and is so well preserved due to its historical importance. There is an adjoining monastery that features a collection of religious texts. You can take tours with guides that speak either English or Spanish, making this destination ideal for both locals and tourists.

One of the main attraction of this church is the catacombs where the most influential people were buried. Additionally,  it was also used as an entrance to one of the city’s main cemeteries.

Pucllana Temple

If you are in the mood for discovery and adventure you can visit the Pucllana Temple in Lima. The Huaca Pucllana are part of an active archaeological site and one of the few ruins from the pre-Columbian period in Peru.

As an adobe ceremonial center, the site would have been used for spiritual ceremonies and sacrifices. It is estimated that Pucllana was built around 500AD and was active during the height of cultural history in Lima. This archeological site is easy to get to as it is located in what is now a residential area of the Miraflores District.
