Kyoto is a city full of temples and shrines: a true masterpiece of architecture. From magnificent temples to stunning zen gardens. Although this city is the religious heart of Japan, it is also a modern,  busy city featuring culture and comfort.

Kasuga Shrine

While visiting Kyoto, take a trip to Nara. Historically, Nara was the first permanent capital of Japan, remains full of national treasures, including some of the oldest Buddhist temples. There are guided tours available when you visit the Todaiji Temple to see Japan’s largest Buddha, In addition, there is a Deer Park where there are hundreds of freely roaming deer, and the Kasuga Shrine,  Nara’s most celebrated shrine.

Kyoto Imperial Palace

One of the most beautiful places to is the Nijo Castle and the golden Kinkakuji Temple also known as the Golden Pavilion. The Kyoto Imperial Palace was home to the emperor until 1868. While touring the palace you can view the Shishinden Imperial state chamber. This is where enthronement ceremonies took place. The beauty and tranquility of this palace are breathtaking.

Arashiyama Bamboo Grove

Bamboo Grove is one of the of most popular tourist destinations in Kyoto, This beautiful spot Grove is located in Arashiyama-Sagano, the outskirt of Kyoto city. There is nothing quite like visiting a forest of bamboo that are as tall as 10 m high, though some of them reach up to 20 m. The grove has a path cut through the forest so visitors can enjoy a pleasant walk.

Due to the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove being a top attraction in the area, the path can be pretty crowded particularly on weekends. The best time to visit is in the early morning when the crowds are not as bad and it is easier to take good photos.

Shijo Street Shopping

A shopping trip on Shijo Street is a real treat. Shijo Street is located at the intersection of Shijo and Kawaramachi streets. Here you find the stores, Takashimaya and Marui. You’ll find plenty to buy, including high-end fashion brands like Louis Vuitton. Across from the Kamo River are shops selling fashion, as well as specialty foods and crafts.

When you are ready to take a break, there are cafes and food markets where you’ll find delicious Japanese favorites and refreshing drinks.

Tea Ceremony

Visiting Japan calls for a Tea Ceremony: Experience a Tea Ceremony in Kyoto is something special. The most famous and best tea is grown in Uji Kyoto. It also no accident that the famous tea ceremony schools began in Kyoto City. A tea ceremony is a nice activity when you are ready to rest after visiting the temples and shrines, You may even find some tearooms that offer kimonos while you drink traditional tea from a tea bowl.

Kyoto Tower

Although Kyoto is a city of ancient temples there are also some modern buildings such as the Kyoto Tower. This is the tallest building in Kyoto and a great place to view the city. From the top of the tower, you can see all the way to Osaka. You will also find telescopes and LED touch screens that highlight landmarks. The best time to visit is at sunset.
