Best Destinations When You’re Low On Vacation Days

A recent study showed that Americans are not taking their vacations.

The research done by Kimble Applications revealed that at least 47 percent of Americans didn’t take any vacation last year and that at least 21 percent left more than five vacation days on the table.

But then there’s the rest of you who utilize those PTO days every chance you get and by the end of the year, you’re working extra hours to squeeze one last vacation in.

If you find yourself low on vacation days, one of the best things you can do to maximize paid time off is planning a trip on extended weekends like Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The key to finding a cheap flight deal for three-day holiday weekends is by booking early. A study conducted by CheapOair found that the best time to buy a flight is at least 70 days before departure to ensure the best deals.

With that being said, below is a list some of the best destinations when your low on vacation days:

Napa Valley, California

Napa Valley is a popular place and for good reason. Wine country boasts beautiful scenery, world-class spa treatments, and an even better food scene.

Its popularity, however, can come with a hefty price tag.

The good news is that you can enjoy Napa Valley on a budget by booking an Airbnb versus a hotel, which averages $175 per night.

Weekend trips to San Francisco from New York costs on average $257 round-trip, according to Google Flights.

During your visit, be sure to spend time at Brown Estate, a black-owned winery in downtown Napa.

Niagara Falls

Once known as the Honeymoon Capital of the world, Niagara Falls still has its charm and thrill for a quick and cheap getaway.

One of the best things about traveling to Niagara Falls is the fact that you have two different sides to choose from, either the New York State side or Canadian side, which also means you have various options in choosing how you will get there that matches your budget.

As a natural wonder of the world, you will find that there are plenty of things to do that won’t break the bank. Walking around Niagara Falls State Park, for example, is free.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

San Juan is one of the most accessible and affordable beach escapes in the Caribbean.

An extended weekend is plenty of time to get what way you need out of a vacation.

In just three days, you can relax on the beach, take a trip to the rain forest, enjoy the nightlife, and explore culture in Old San Juan.

Lower Antelope Canyon, Arizona

It seems like Antelope Canyon’s picturesque scenery allowed the destination to grow overnight and is now considered a “must-see” for tourists to Arizona.

Antelope Canyon includes two separate slot canyon sections known as Upper and Lower Canyon.

The Upper Canyon is the most popular but it’s pricier and there tend to be large crowds.

Lower Antelope Canyon is cheaper and less crowded.

The closest airport is in Las Vegas. Keep in mind that you do not need a reservation, but you will need a tour guide.
