The current wildfires in Australia have destroyed millions of acres of land, killed at least two dozen people, and left thousands of more people and animals in danger according to abcnew.com.

With no end in sight, the fires are expected to rage on for months, continuing their paths of devastation across the entire continent. Support the Aid Workers

Donate to the Australian Red Cross’ Disaster Relief and Recovery. As the website suggests, you can also get a group together to help you organize a fun, social event, or create a fundraising page that people can donate to and support you in achieving a specific goal of raising funds to support the Red Cross’ ground efforts in Australia.

Protect the Wildlife

Donate to WIRES, an organization committed to helping the wildlife in Australia. Not only have the fires taken a huge toll on the general population, but the wildlife in Australia is greatly suffering from the effects of the fires as well. “With the fires destroying unprecedented amounts of habitat, food shortages have increased and lack of suitable habitat will be a significant long-term challenge for surviving wildlife. It is impossible to know how many animals have perished and it will be many months before the impact on wild populations can be better understood but ecologists at Sydney University have estimated over 800 million animals have been affected in Australia since September,” says the website.

Support the Firefighters

The NSW Rural Fire Service has a donation page to support the firefighting efforts in New South Wales. Rural Fire Brigades are a vital community service. These volunteers are working tirelessly to save and rescue those in direct danger of the fires.

Spread the Word

Bushfires aren’t started by climate change, but they are exacerbated by the effects of global warming. Take to social media or talk to people face-to-face within your community to spread the word about climate change and its effects on our world. Educate yourself and those around you on ways you can change daily habits to help offset the long-term effects of climate change on our environment.
