Grab A Few Friends — Amtrak Announces Group Travel Discounts
By Victoria M. Walker
Amtrak has announced that it was releasing group travel discounts of up to 35 percent off all four tickets, which the company says will give travelers more money in-pocket for other activities.
On Amtrak’s website, it says, “We make it easy to bring the whole crew by helping you save with each plus one. The more you bring, the more you save.”
The sale started on April 23 for travel beginning April 26, and the fares are one-way.
“At Amtrak, we believe the journey is the most important part of the adventure,” Amtrak President and CEO Richard Anderson said in a statement. “Recognizing the desire for customers to get more out of every moment, we’ve put significant investments into our stations, equipment, and infrastructure to improve the overall experience and give our customers the opportunity to rediscover train travel.”
The first passenger will pay full price for a fare, the second will receive 15 percent off the total price, the third will receive 60 percent off full price, and the fourth will receive 70 percent off full price.
According to Amtrak, most Northeast Regional routes between Washington and Boston, and lines including California Zephyr, Capitol Limited, City of New Orleans, Cardinal, Empire Builder, Southwest Chief, Texas Eagle, Coast Starlight, Lake Shore Limited, Palmetto, Silver Star, Silver Meteor, and Crescent are applicable for the fare.
According to USA TODAY, passengers taking the Acela train cannot use the discount.
