American Express’ New Green Card Will Offer Epic Rewards For Millennial Travelers

By Kelsey Marie

During my childhood, I remember seeing my mom pull out her green American Express card which signaled for me that she was about to make a large purchase. In the past few years, the iconic Green American Express card has declined in popularity as a result of competitor’s rewards programs being more appealing to millennial travelers.

American Express is aiming to keep up with its competitors with the announcement of the Green American Express relaunch.

The card will now be called Green from Amex and has lots of new benefits for every type of traveler.

According to CN Traveler, “the card fee is rising along with the bonuses — from $95 to $150 — and it will no longer be waived for the first year. A foreign transaction fee still applies to purchases made on the card.”

The Green Card is perfect for first-time credit card holders as a means to build up their credit score. It is also perfect for the traveler wanting to earn travel rewards credit points.

Here’s all the Green from Amex perks:

Access To Airport Lounge

Hitting up the airport lounge is always a good idea and a better idea when you have statement credits. American Airlines purchased LoungeBuddy at the beginning of this year and will offer Green Amex cardholders up to $100 each year in statement credits towards purchases at LoungeBuddy.

Entrance fees range between $40 and $60, so you can expect to use the lounge at least twice a year when traveling.

Increased Points Return

One of the best perks of the new Green from Amex card is 3X Membership Rewards Points on all purchases made on transit, travel, and restaurants anywhere in the world.

Away Luggage Statement Credit

If you haven’t heard of Away luggage, it’s a super chic brand for those who want to travel in style. With the new Green from Amex card, cardholders will receive a $100 statement credit towards purchasing items from Away.

American Express collaborated with the popular luggage brand to target millennials.

Clear Membership Statement Credit

Clear is a biometric screening service that allows you to skip to the front of security lines at the airport. The standard membership of Clear is $179 but with the Green from Amex card, you will receive a $100 statement credit each year.

Rachel Stocks, executive vice president of Global Premium Products & Benefits speaks with CN Traveler on Amex’s goal to target millennials who “like experiences, and want to be rewarded for the things they do the most.”
