The One Airline You Should Avoid Flying This Holiday Season

The hectic holiday travel season is upon us, and if you’re like the millions of Americans planning to travel by plane to visit loved ones or enjoy a wintertime getaway, you’ll want to avoid one particular airline if you want to make it to your destination on time according to the Bureau of Transportation.

From the moment you book your ticket to how long it takes you to arrive at your destination, timing is everything in air travel. Forbes examined the Bureau of Transportation’s data and created a list of the best and worst airlines for holiday travel, comparing performances from domestic carriers in terms of how often they departed on time while also comparing loyalty programs and updates to products.

Across the board, airlines reaching the gate within 15 minutes of schedule appear to have dropped from 81.75% during the 2015 holiday season to 80.91% in 2016. The airlines with the highest on-time percentages are below:

Hawaiian Airlines, 90.4%
Delta Air Lines, 86.88%
Alaska Airlines, 83.3%
American Airlines, 79.8%
United Airlines, 79.5%

There’s a bit of bad news for fans of budget airlines. Frontier Airlines scored the lowest, with just 73.1% of their flights departing on time during the holiday season over the last three years. Good thing to keep in mind when scoring those last minute flight deals home for the holidays.
