By Leah Freeman-Haskin

Spring Break 2019 is just around the corner, and it’s time to start planning your week-long getaway. Here’s a list of some of the best spots around the world where you can enjoy your time off.

For The Surfer

Located just 45 minutes north of Lisbon, Pedra Branca in Ericeira, Portugal is a surfer’s dream. Ericeira, pronounced Eery-Say-Reh, is the surf capital of Portugal, often described as a surfing mecca due to its abundance of consistent waves that are accessible to surfers of all levels.

With the beaches and sunshine being the main attraction, most other activities involve exploring the small, seaside towns and fishing villages.

For The Partier

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic offers some of the best spring break packages around at stunning resorts with all of the amenities you could imagine. With flight and all-inclusive hotels locked in, you can now focus on finding the best parties. STS Travel provides a schedule of some of the most popular parties with events and artists added daily.

For The Beach Bum

Dreamland Beach, located on Bali’s Southern coast on the Bukit peninsula, has taken a seat on many lists of the best beaches in the world. It is one of the hidden beaches of Bali boasting stretches of white sand backed by limestone cliffs and a rugged coastline. Many resorts have popped up in the area, but it is said that the beach still holds its original charm and is the perfect spot for someone looking to bask in the sun all day. With beach chairs for rent and cheap massages right on the sand, you may never want to leave.

For The Foodie

For those with a true appreciation for food, Osaka, Japan boasts some of the best restaurants in the world and also offers excellent value. Best known for Okonomiyaki, savory pancakes cooked in front of you on a steel grill, sushi, tempura, and traditional Japanese Kaiseki, Osaka restaurants offer enough variety to keep you busy during spring break. Some of the top-rated, Michelin star awarded restaurants you can’t miss include Kashiwaya with a classic kaiseki menu, and Taian or Koryu for more modern takes on traditional Japanese food.

For The Yogi

Labeled a Blue Zone for the health and longevity of its people, Nosara, Costa Rica is located on the Nicoya Peninsula on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. Take time to reflect, relax, and rejuvenate at one of Nosara’s many yoga resorts or week-long retreats. Bodhi Tree and Blue Spirit offer just the escape you need overlooking the jungle and blue waters of the Pacific.

For The Art & Culture Junkie

Florence, Italy is the capital of Italy’s Tuscany region and the heart of the Italian Renaissance. From the Duomo to the Accademia Gallery which houses Michelangelo’s David (easily the most famous sculpture in the world), there is no shortage of art and culture to explore. You can spend hours strolling through the narrow streets taking in the breathtaking architecture and history. Nearly every corner of the city provides a remarkable museum, palace, or church that house some of the greatest artistic treasures in the world.

For The Family

Getting away with little ones in tow can feel daunting, but The Big Island of Hawaii is an easy and family-friendly getaway. The island offers tide pool exploration, kid-friendly snorkeling, volcano and beach adventures, and plenty of kid-friendly accommodations. Many of the family-oriented resorts provide indoor and outdoor activities for children of all ages.

For The Adventure Seeker

The Galápagos Islands are part of the Republic of Ecuador located about 600 miles from the coast in the Pacific Ocean. The islands offer wildlife and views unlike anything else in the world. The Galápagos archipelago, a chain of 19 islands and dozens of islets, is still a volcanically active area, and the islands often see fresh eruptions. Enjoy snorkeling, hiking, sea kayaking, swimming and surfing, horseback riding, mountain biking, scuba diving, panga (dinghy) rides, and more. There is no shortage of adventure throughout the unspoiled landscape of The Galápagos Islands.
