7 Things To Pack In Your Travel First Aid Kit

When most people plan for a vacation, they’re generally not thinking about the bad things that could happen. If we did, we’d probably never leave the house. While you’re on the road and adding beautiful memories to your memory bank, it’s also essential to put together a first aid kit that fits comfortably in your carry-on. Simple things that can take care of a cut or an allergic reaction can keep you from having to frantically purchase these things (sometimes for a premium price) if the need arises.

Pain and Fever Reducer

Whether you’re fighting pain from an in-flight headache, a post-hike muscle ache or a burn from an iron,  Advil, and Tylenol are first aid kit staples — as they help with the pain and can reduce swelling.

Antihistamines

You never know when you’ll end up with a “Hitch” style allergic reaction or need relief from allergies exacerbated by your new surroundings. Benadryl does an excellent job of at fighting adverse reactions but can make you sleepy, so be sure to have a non-drowsy option like Claritin as well.

Alcohol Wipes

Cleaning wounds are vital to them healing correctly, and alcohol wipes (even though it will sting) are among the best ways to keep infections from occurring.

Antibiotic Cream

Ointments like Neosporin are a great follow-up to cleaning a wound (from burns and cuts) as it will prevent infection and help the injury heal.

Bandages

Whether you wore the wrong shoes to the airport and ended up with blisters or you need to take care of a more severe injury, be sure you have bandages in your first aid kit.

Hydrocortisone Cream

Have you ever stepped into poison ivy or woke up with an unsightly rash on your skin after a night in a hotel (Down comforters can cause this)? Yeah, me too. Not all rashes will benefit from this steroid cream, but the odds are in your favor.

Dramamine

If you or someone you love is prone to motion sickness, be sure to keep this stocked. There is nothing worse than motion sickness when you’re supposed to be living your best life.

These first aid options won’t work for all issues that could arise, but having them on hand is always beneficial. For more severe medical problems, be sure to get to a medical professional as soon as possible.
