Breakfast, as we know, is the most important meal of the day. With the abundance of juice shops, smoothie bars, and plant-based eateries in Los Angeles, it can sometimes be a mission to find a hearty breakfast spot.
There are gems around the city dishing out buttery biscuits, richly made grits and other southern classics — you just have to know where to look.
Here’s a list of 10 southern comfort breakfast spots in L.A. that will make your mouth water.
S & W Country Diner – Culver City
This Culver City diner serves up a classic southern breakfast. We’re talking eggs, bacon, sausage, pork chops, country fried steak and of course, cornbread.
Pann’s Restuarant – South LA
Pann’s offers beautiful architecture and amazing comfort food. Enjoy breakfast fried chicken, Texas french toast and pork chip plates at this eatery.
Country Touch Cafe – Torrance
Now, this is an absolute gem in a generally unknown part of Torrence. This menu is a no-frills, cheap way to get your southern comfort-food fix. Here you can find corn beef hash, biscuits and gravy, beef liver and onion, and pancakes.
Gaffey St. Diner – San Pedro
Gaffey St. is known as a traditional longshoreman’s diner located off the docks. Order the Country Breakfast which includes a biscuit and sausage gravy, 2 eggs and home fries.
Poppy + Rose – Flower District
Poppy + Rose is located in the Flower District and serves classic American comfort food using fresh ingredients. Their breakfast is served all day and offers items like buttermilk fried chicken + waffle and steak + eggs.
Rae’s Restaurant – Santa Monica
This roadside stand may be humble but the food is definitely brag-worthy. Order the chicken fried steak and home fries which are always served perfectly browned.
Nick’s Cafe – Chinatown
There isn’t much seating at this roadside stand but you’re sure to find one of the most classic breakfasts in town here. Nick’s Cafe has been in business since 1948 and has been serving biscuits and hearty slabs of ham ever since.
John O’Groats – Westside
This spot has been serving southern meals for generations. Here you can get buttery biscuits and gravy, richly made grits and fried chicken.
The Serving Spoon – Inglewood
The Serving Spoon is an Inglewood diner dishing out southern classics on the daily. Here you can try their popular fried catfish and cornbread.
Jenny’s Country Kitchen – Whittier
This southern comfort haven has been around since 1970. Jenny’s mergest southern classics with Mexican staples. Here you can find homemade biscuits, fried chicken and meatloaf.
