Take Advantage Of These Last Minute MLK Weekend Travel Deals

By Sharelle Burt

During January, Americans celebrate the life of the legendary civil rights icon, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law back in 1983 and it was officially celebrated three years later. The holiday typically falls a few days after Dr. King’s birthday on January 15. While the day is primarily celebrated with volunteer work in cities across the nation, travelers take advantage of the three-day weekend with some awesome travel deals.

Since January is a winter month, one would think escaping the cold weather would be preferred, but there’s nothing wrong with snuggling up at a hotel overlooking the beautiful scenery in Aspen. The Hilton Denver Inverness is a 4-star hotel that has a great deal for the weekend, with rates starting at $88 a night. Another cold city worth visiting is Stowe, Vermont. Known for its snowy ski slopes, the Hilton Burlington also has some rooms going for $120 per night.

For those that need a break from wearing their winter coats, Orlando, Florida is opening their doors. Travelers can stay at the Crowne Plaza Hotel while having fun at Walt Disney World or maybe catch an Orlando Magic game at Amway Center. The Hyatt House in Charleston, South Carolina has a deal with rooms going for $138. After checking in, travelers can get a taste of the city’s infamous seafood or take a trip over the bridge to the beach at Isle of Palms.

If there are no limits to your travel destinations, the City of Angels also has some great deals. There is plenty to do in Los Angeles. From shopping on Rodeo Drive, eating at Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles or catching LeBron James at the Staples Center, travelers will need a good night’s sleep. Check into the Sheraton Gateway, a four-star hotel, with rates starting at $124 a night.

Make your move quickly because the rates are only good for guests checking in on January 18th and checking out January 21st.
