32 lbs Of Rat Meat Seized By U.S. Customs At Chicago O’Hare
By Stephanie Ogbogu
What could someone possibly need with 32 lbs. of rat meat? We don’t know, but we are thankful that we don’t have to find out.
On June 26, a man traveling from the Ivory Coast arrived at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport where he arrived at customs and declared that he had meat. Upon further inspection, U.S. Customs agents identified the meat as African rat meat — roughly 32lbs of it.
U.S. Customs prohibits African meat from being brought into the country in order to prevent the spread of diseases such as African swine fever.
Fortunately for the man, his honesty helped him avoid facing any fines or punishments. The meat was confiscated and destroyed, and he was sent on his way.
