How Cannabis Tourism Is Changing The Game In Vegas

By DeAnna Taylor

Nevada became the fifth state to legalize recreational marijuana on July 1, 2017. Sales have far exceeded state projections so far, especially in and around Las Vegas. Tourists are flocking to “Sin City” just to be able to purchase weed legally.

Although adults over the age of 21 can legally buy up to an ounce of flower or an eighth of concentrate, it can only be consumed on private property with the owner’s permission.

Investors and innovators are quickly becoming aware of the popularity and thriving sales of marijuana in Vegas, and have begun creating and designing experiences around it.

JJ Walker is the founder of Cannabition, Las Vegas’ newest attraction and Instagram-worthy photo spot, set to open on Thursday. It is a museum dedicated to all things cannabis. The venue has even been deemed ‘The world’s first interactive marijuana museum.’

“Our goal when people come out of this is that they don’t fear the cannabis industry if they are not believers in the industry,” Walker told The Associated Press. “Cannabition is not just about serving people that like marijuana, it’s about serving the masses that want to learn about cannabis and or just have fun and go do a cool art experience.”

Guests won’t be able to light up in the museum, but they will walk away with some pretty cool photos. The museum will feature 12 installations visitors can wander through. Some of the exhibits include “seed” where people can lie down in a bed shaped like a marijuana seed.

There will be several other Instagram-worthy photo ops around the museum too. One of the most anticipated is a 24-foot tall glass bong named “Bongzilla,” which said to be the largest of its kind in the world.

Not only will this be a fun opportunity for social media users, but the venue also has educational components as well. Museum guides will inform guests and various wall graphics will explain how different strains of the plant are made.

To enter Cannabition, you must be 21 years old. The experience will last for approximately one hour.
