Black-Owned Vegan Chefs And Restaurants In Charlotte, NC
By DeAnna Taylor
Finding delicious food in a city can be hard, especially when you are 100% plant-based. Luckily, Charlotte, NC has a few Black vegan chefs throughout the city who can satisfy your cravings.
If you are headed to the ‘Queen City’ you’ll definitely want to support one or all of these businesses while there.
Chef Joya is known for her mysterious pop-ups around the city and throughout the south. She announces via her social media, 1-day before the event, where she will be and what she will feature that day. Her plates sell out every time. She is most known for her award-winning vegan Mac and cheese.
You can catch this food truck at all of the major events around Charlotte. Many people flock to this business for their amazing burger variety. They are usually only around on weekends, so be sure to plan accordingly.
Chef Akil recently introduced his latest venture, a vegan food truck and catering business. Fun fact: he is the brother of Chef Joya, so you know the food will be amazing. You’ll definitely want to order his “fish” tacos. After that first bite, you’re going to want the recipe, trust me. Check his Instagram to see where they will be.
One of the very few Black-owned vegan spots with a storefront, this business quickly solidified its spot as one of the best. Chef Velvet has been able to get her food in front of some of our favorite celebrities, most recently Russell Simmons and Nick Cannon. Nick Cannon loves it so much, he is working on a venture with the business for Los Angeles.
Chef Bre, who also happens to be a professional bodybuilder, has been meat-free for over 6 years and completely plant-based for over 2. She offers meal prep, catering, as well as private chef services. You can also catch her at pop-up events from time to time. Check her Instagram for the latest on where to find her.
This Black-owned vegan business recently made its way back to Charlotte, this time in the form of a food truck. They make some of the best Philly “Cheesesteaks” and homemade desserts in the vegan community. They are slowly rebuilding their following, but they definitely didn’t lose their touch from their first business in the city.
