China is world famous for its cuisine. So, which are the best places to eat in the most influential city in China? Below is a list of the most famous food streets you should visit on your next trip.

Chenghuangmiao Old Street

Head to: Fuyou Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai. To get to the place, you can take the Metro line 10 at Yuyuan station and exit at gate 1.

This street is in proximity to the Yuyuan garden. You will get all kinds of snacks on this street. This is a must visit street in Shanghai if you’re serious about sampling Chinese cuisine. Steamed Buns, Pan-Fried Bun Stuffed with Pork (Sheng Jian Bao), pork balls, Spare ribs with rice cakes, crab shell cake, etc. are a must taste snacks here.

Wujiang Road Food Street

Head to: Wujiang Road, Jing An District, Shanghai. To get to the place you’ll take metro line 2 and alight at Nanjing Xilu Station.


This is the most popular food street in Shanghai. You can also sample the local cuisine here while you shop along the very same road. The Chinese foods you could sample here include Xiaoyang Sheng Jian Bao, tapioca pudding, barbecue, vermicelli made from bean starch, etc.

Qi Bao Old Street

Head to: Qi Bao Town, Minxing District, and Shanghai. To get here, you’ll take bus number 91, 92.

The street is full of numerous antique buildings. The street is divided into two, the north street and the south street. The north street focuses on, but the best snacks are found on the south street. The street is also in proximity to the famous Old Town.

Yunnan South Road Food Street

Head to: Yunnan South Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai. To get here, you take bus number 220, 127, 503, 126.

It is one of the oldest food streets in Shanghai with many of its restaurants have been around for over 100 years. Restaurants and food stands are available on this street and include Shaoxing Restaurant and Nanjing Salty Wild Duck. It is about ten-minute walk from the People’s Square and adjacent to Dashijie Amusement Park, so it is also called Dashijie Food Stree

Fangbang Lu Food Street

Head to: Sipailou Lu near Fangbang Lu.

At Fangbang Lu Food Street, you’ll find a Shanghai from a different era – without all the pretension and bling that make up the city skyline. The buildings here are in old-style. And the food here ranges a lot from fresh fruits to cooked food. Outside the main gate is a plethora of fresh fruit vendors, but it is recommended to pass on through and returning to them at the end, to quench your sweet tooth at the end of a meal. There are several skewered types of meat and vegetables that you can sample, for example, Ma La Tang when it’s cold out or hand-pulled noodles from the Lanzhou Lamian stalls.

Huanghe Road Food Street

Head to:  Huanghe Road, Huangpu District, Shanghai. It has a convenient central location in proximity to the people’s park.
